The Mephisto Club

A ritualistic Christmas Eve murder in Boston draws medical examiner Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli into the orbit of the Mephisto Club, a group of scholars devoted to the academic study of evil who have recently received a very personal demonstration of their subject matter. As the killings continue, the investigators must determine whether they are hunting a human predator or something the Club's darker members believe to be genuinely demonic. Kathe Mazur narrates with the tightly wound control she brings to the entire series, finding the line between the procedural's grounded forensic work and the escalating supernatural unease without letting either mode undercut the other. Her voice captures Rizzoli's impatience and Isles's measured clinical distance with the confidence of a narrator who has inhabited these characters across multiple books. The Boston winter setting adds atmospheric chill that Mazur's performance makes visceral.
