Shadow Magic opens with amateur thief Dustin Graves murdered as a ritual sacrifice — and waking up with dark magic where there was none before. In a Los Angeles populated by the gods of multiple traditions and the monsters that serve them, Dust becomes the mage on the case when divine bodies start turning up. Nazri Noor writes urban fantasy with a light, rapid touch, balancing the snark with genuine mythology and giving his Filipino-American protagonist a cultural specificity that grounds the supernatural elements.

Luke Daniels narrates with the bright, irreverent energy the first-person voice demands. His performance captures Dust's charm and the novel's comedic rhythm while honoring the genuine darkness of the stakes. At just over seven and a half hours the audiobook is well-paced for the genre — substantial enough to develop its world without outstaying the premise.
