Phantom Evil

A senator's wife falls from a window in a historic New Orleans mansion, and the investigation stalls between suicide, accident, and the possibility of something harder to explain. Jackson Crow, former special ops and now leader of a newly formed FBI unit for paranormal investigation, is brought in alongside LAPD officer Angela Hawkins, whose intuitive gifts exceed what official police procedure allows. The Krewe of Hunters series begins here, in a French Quarter house with a history of violence and walls that seem to remember.

Jeffrey Cummings narrates with a Southern gothic register that suits the New Orleans atmosphere. He gives Jackson's controlled authority and Angela's intuitive alertness distinct voices, and the supernatural elements land as genuinely atmospheric rather than campy. At just over ten hours, Phantom Evil establishes the Krewe of Hunters as a series that takes its paranormal premise seriously enough to generate real tension.
