In an alternate 1880s Seattle, a catastrophic mining accident has transformed the city into a walled tomb filled with toxic gas and shambling undead. Sixteen years after inventor Leviticus Blue's drilling machine unleashed underground blight gas that turns the living into monsters, his widow Briar Wilkes struggles to survive outside the quarantine barrier with her teenage son Ezekiel.
