Blackwood Farm

Blackwood Farm, the ninth Vampire Chronicles novel, introduces Quinn Blackwood, young heir to a Louisiana plantation haunted by a terrifying doppelganger spirit, who comes to Lestat for help. Rice constructs one of her most atmospheric Southern settings, the cypress swamps and grand old houses of the Delta, around a story of family secrets, generational violence, and the particular horror of being haunted by something that wears your own face.

David Pittu's narration gives the novel its Louisiana gothic weight, his voice moving through the multiple registers Rice requires, from Quinn's youthful intensity to Lestat's older, worldlier perspective. The Vampire Chronicles' lush, confessional style is well-suited to audio, where the first-person intimacy can breathe without the visual demands of the page.
