The twelfth Women's Murder Club novel sends Lindsay Boxer back to work just days after delivering her daughter, where she faces a star football player suspected of murder and a professor whose prophetic nightmares match real homicides to an impossible degree. Patterson and Paetro have always pushed the series toward the outlandish, and the dual-plot structure here is one of their more inventive constructions, pairing cold forensic logic with something that resists conventional explanation.

January LaVoy's narration gives equal weight to both storylines, grounding the supernatural elements without deflating them and keeping Lindsay's personal life, the exhaustion of new motherhood, woven naturally into the professional urgency. The short chapter structure, which can feel mechanical in prose, becomes rhythmic in audio, and LaVoy understands exactly when to push and when to hold back.
